Today I have a nice set of high-res tree bark textures for you guys. When I went out to shoot these I was surprised at just how many variations of bark I found. Also this is the first set of textures I've created on my new 24" iMac, so let me know if anything looks/acts a little strange.
One other thing: I have some awesome new projects in the works that will be coming out in the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled ;)

FAQ
What free software is best capable of designing non-interactive eye-candy?
It may be difficult to handle since I'm doing it for time-killing, I just don't want to lose great amounts of time to make something not worth watching. Quality over quantity.
Computer art, like all other art takes a lifetime to master. Blender 3D is the best free tool for 3d modeling, but don't expect to learn it in a day. Here's what can be done with it-
making still images (and of course textures for Blender), I recommend The Gimp, which is like a free photoshop alternative. If you want to do line art, Inkscape is the alternative to illustrator.
Since this is in the programming section, you might enjoy realtime graphics more. Get a copy of RenderMonkey and start making some shaders!
