Light Textures Photoshop

Today, I’m going to be focusing on light textures, specifically how to make your own and how to make use of them in graphic design. This is for absolute beginners. While I don’t pretend to be an expert when it comes to photography and graphics, it’s been a hobby of mine for a few years and I’ve learnt a lot through experimentation and online tutorials. I still have fond memories of being 13 years old and getting incredibly excited because I’d just made my first banner for a story I’d written on a Harry Potter fanfiction site. I remember during that time, I found ‘The Dark Arts’ graphics community incredibly helpful and I would definitely suggest checking it out if you want to see some really amazing artists. But anyway. Getting side-tracked here. Back to light textures.

So, what is a light texture? Well, here are a few examples:

So, I’m going to start with how to create them. Of course you can find plenty on the internet, but there’s copyright issues if it’s for commercial use, and frankly it’s just more fun to make them yourself. Everyone needs to try out light photography at least once in their lives. So, this will only work if you have a more advanced camera, either a DSLR or a compact system. Basically anything where you can change the shutter speed.
